Pros and Cons of School Uniforms

School uniforms can be a good thing and a bad thing. Some people think that it is teaching kids to dress more nice, while others think that it’s holding kids back from expressing themselves. I, on the other hand, don’t know what I would choose. I agree with some of the pros and cons of the argument. Some of the students that I asked said that it was a bad thing because it destroys individualism, and another student said that used to attend a school with uniforms said he didn’t like it because everybody looked the same.

Some of the pros that I have found is that in larger cities it helps eliminate gang activity and crime. They also think that it helps improve school pride when everyone is wearing the school colors. One last thing that I found is that many people think that it would help improve attendance because it doesn’t take as long to get ready. Many of the students I asked said “they don’t think that it would eliminate gang activity, they actually think it would make it worse because they have to wear different colors and you can’t tell who is who.” The students also think that it won’t improve attendance because if you only wear one uniform to school and it get dirty or damaged they won’t want to attend school.

A few of the cons of the uniforms is that some students may not feel comfortable in the clothing and they won’t be able to express themselves. Another person thinks that it could interfere with religious people or religious items the students wear. It can also cost a lot and some families may not be able to afford it. The students agree that it could be very expensive and they also say if the school requires students to wear uniforms, the school should provide them for everyone.

After all, I have to agree that I don’t think uniforms are a good idea, and may actually cause more problems than resolve them. The students also say that they absolutely do not want uniforms either. What would you choose? Are you for it, or not?
