Pow Wow in Wabeno

On Wednesday May 10th we were visited by Sokaogoon Chippewa and Forest County Potawatomi tribal members. Our students learned some of the native dances and music while learning about a healthy lifestyle.

Tribal member Kimberlee Soldier says a powwow offers a chance at healing the body, the mind, and the spirit.

Many of our students hand the opportunity to go out on the gym floor and dance. Some also had the chance to learn how to hoop dance under the instruction of Michele Reed.

After asking some students if they enjoyed the powwow or not the answer was pretty one sided. I could tell that all students enjoyed it. It was a great opportunity for the students at Wabeno to experience and participate in the culture that is so prevalent in this area.
