Veterans Day is a day where we thank all the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces for our country. This day also marks the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, which ended World War I between the Allied Nations and Germany in 1918.
The Wabeno High School hosts a Veterans Day program every year in the school gymnasium. Billy Daniels opened our program this year with a prayer and the high school band played “The Star Spangled Banner”. Students, staff, and veterans gave speeches or read poems during the program. This year’s speakers were Herbert Cane, Kassidy Ashbeck, Max Skenandore, Mikey Austin, and Mary Ellen Keller. Nick, Pat, Aidan, and Connor Lowery gave a speech in memory of their late father/grandfather. They presented the school with Dick Lowery’s flag from his years in the Armed Forces.
Also during the program, the 6th grade writing contest winners were recognized. Adam Seeber, Owen Seeber, Zoie Cayan, and Pfieffer Bodoh won the contest for writing well thought-out and descriptive essays about flag etiquette. Ashlyn Hooper, Kyle Harris, Dylan Garrison, and Brandon Moravec expressed their gratitude toward the American Legion Auxiliary for sponsoring their participation at Badger Girls and Badger Boys state where the students were able to learn more about local and state governemnts.
The High School band played the anthem for each section of the Armed Forces and the Fire Nations drummed and sang their Flag, Honor, and Victory songs.
