Eric “The Tank” Hoffman

Eric Hoffman, Wabeno’s High School math teacher, grew up in the small town of Gresham, Wisconsin where he was a multi-sport athlete and a top student.  When he was in fifth grade, his teacher, Mr. Matthews, sparked his interest in math.  This new interest in math and his love for helping kids is what led him to teaching at the high school level.

Mr. Hoffman’s favorite part about teaching is being able to help kids reach their potential in a subject they might not have understood before.  Mr. Hoffman doesn’t just want to get kids interested in math, he also wants to challenge them, which is why his favorite class to teach is calculus.  Mr. Hoffman enjoys the challenges calculus provides and how much it gets his students thinking.

Mr. Hoffman enjoys a wide array of things outside school.  He loves sports, including basketball, baseball, football, and soccer.  Mr. Hoffman also enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and even going for a run to see all the scenery.  On top of all of this, he likes to relax and spend time with his family.

If Mr. Hoffman wasn’t teaching he would love to think he’d be an architect.  He enjoys the subject for a number of reasons.  One reason, is his obvious enjoyment of math, specifically because he would enjoy the geometry involved in architecture.  He said he also likes the art aspect of architecture.

As a teacher, Mr Hoffman said his goal is to have students from the past come back and tell him how he had helped them prepare for their future. He wants to see all of his students be successful.  His goal as a person is to travel as much as possible, preferably out of the country.
